Nuclear Disarmament Day
The first nuclear Disarmament Day was observed on Wednesday August 6 in Burlington, Vermont.
At a noon ceremony at the Burlington City Hall Park the Mayor's Proclamation was read, designating the day.
WILPF, Burlington chapter,Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, initiated the event and Mayor Bob Kiss, who is a Mayor for Peace, proclaimed the day on the 63 anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.
WILPF is circulating a petition to make August 6 a national day of remembrance as Nuclear Disarmament Day. That petition can be downloaded, printed and signed at: www.wilpf.org
The same petition is online:

WILPF has been active for disarmament since 1915 and participates in the on-going Conference on Disarmament in Geneva as an NGO, non-governmental organization.
WILPF been petitioning from the streets of Burlington and all points in every direction in the US. and around the world.
We ask everyone who is for Nuclear Disarmament to sign it. On the paper petition you need only put your city, state, country, with your name and signature.
We want a national Nuclear Disarmament Day so we can have Nuclear Disarmament.
WILPF will bring the petitions to Congress in Washington DC the week of September 15 and will be persuading legislators to establish national Nuclear Disarmament Day.
